The process: Arbitration is usually an out-of-court method of resolving a dispute. The arbitrator controls the trial, listens to both parties and makes a decision. As an attempt, only one side will prevail. Unlike a procedure, the rights of appeal are limited. The dual-concern model of conflict resolution is a conceptual perspective that assumes that the method favoured by the individual in conflict management is based on two underlying themes or dimensions: self-concern (the ability to impose oneself) and concern for others (empathy). A conflict resolution manager should be able to view conflict from a sky perspective and apply the style of conflict management required in this particular situation. Universities around the world offer curricula on conflict research, analysis and practice. Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo has the oldest Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program in Canada. PACS may be taken as a fee, a 4-year-old general or a 3-year-old general, a joint major, a minor and a diploma.
Grebel also offers an interdisciplinary Master of Peace and Conflict Studies professional program. Cornell University ILR School is home to the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, which offers bachelor`s, postgraduate and professional training courses to resolve conflicts. It also provides dispute resolution concentrations for its MILR, JD/MILR, MPS and MS/PhD programs. The Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University offers a master of arts in conflict transformation, a master`s degree in divinity/MA in conflict transformation, and several postgraduate certificates. EMU also offers a 5-year accelerated BA in peacebuilding and development/MA at Conflict Transformation. Other graduate programs are offered at Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, The University of Creighton, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Trinity College Dublin. The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University, BS, MS and PhD in conflict analysis and resolution, as well as a minor bachelor`s degree, graduate certificates and joint graduate programs. In some circumstances, you may want to get help from a lawyer to help you negotiate a fair deal. Negotiations are the first method of solving problems and trying to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. If no agreement is reached, you can follow one of the other options offered here. This procedure can be used appropriately at any stage of the conflict – before a complaint is filed while an action is pending, at the end of a trial, before or after a complaint is filed. The method you use to resolve your dispute depends on your personal needs and the nature of your respective disputes.
